Name of song/group 1975-1977 song - baffling me
Hello! I am having a lot of trouble finding this one -- it's weird how songs just completely disappear.

Song in period of 1975-78 -- lots of airplay on FM album rock stations in San Diego -- an up tempo folksy bluesy sort of rock tune. Male lead vocal. (I can play it on piano but have now forgotten a lot of the lyrics)

These are the lyric fragments that I recall and/or estimate:

"So if you're feeling low, [-----] and the world has really socked it to ya,

[------] singin' Glory Hallelujah.
Hallelu - u - u - u - u - u - u - yah
(repeated chorus Hallelujah 2 or 3 times by backup girl singers)

I thought it was from the Grateful Dead, but I've searched extensively and not found it.

[This is *not* the song "Games People Play" that has the line "And they really sock it to ya, in the name of the Lord. Totally different. It is also not the Hallelujah song by Sweathog, circa 1969]

If you'd like to try it, I have the notes to play it on Musipedia.org, so at least you can hear the basic melody and refrain. [You paste the string in the box and then play it. Try it more than once if it doesn't work the first time.]

http://www.musipedia.org/melody_search.0.html

Refrain:
c''4 dis''8 c''4 ais'8 gis'4 f'8 ais'8. ais'8 ais'8. gis'4 c''8. c''8 c''8. c''8 gis'4 f'4

Verse:
c''4 dis''8 c''4 ais'8 gis'4 f'8 ais'2 ais'4 gis'8 c''8 ais'8 gis'8 f'4 dis'8 f'4

Thank you for any suggestions you may have!

Hmmmmmmmmmm sounds Dylan-ish from his Christian phase of the late 1970's..

HOWEVER, Dylan has a distinctive voice and so I guess you've eliminated him.

Hello,
I suppose this is way off, considering you say it's from the mid-70s, but it's the only thing I can think of that you might be referring to.
Leonard Cohen wrote and recorded a song called 'Hallelujah' in the late 80s - the words you recall don't match the song's lyrics, but the meter seems close.
Jeff Buckley did a stirring cover of it, among others.
You can listen to a sample if you Wiki 'Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen song)'.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for giving it some thought. No, it isn't that fine song by Leonard Cohen. This one has an uptempo shuffle beat. My gosh, this is amazingly hard to find.

All the best!
