Deep male voice singing L-o-o-o-o-o-v-e. One or two of the words in the song are I think 'Nazareth'or going to Nazareth? Perhaps in gospel style yet pop not 'religious'. Definitely not Shadrack or similar but the word L-o-o-o-o-o-v-e is sung in a gutteral tone as the striking feature of this quite haunting song. Any thoughts. The male singer sound a bit like Lee Marvin -paint your wagon??? but much deeper voice.

Yes, I remember it well! It was 'The Man from Nazareth' by John Paul Joans, a no. 29 hit in Australia in 1971 and it also reached no. 25 in the UK. There's not much on the web about this guy. The song was co-written by Godley, Creme & Stewart (who all later surfaced in 10cc) together with a Reginald John Davidge (possibly John Paul Joans' real name).
